Getting to Nkanyi House

Nkanyi House is located within the Zandspruit Bush and Aero Estate, just outside the town of Hoedspruit, Limpopo province (near the border with Mpumalanga province) There are three great options for getting to Hoedspruit:

• From Johannesburg you may wish to rent a car and drive to Hoedspruit. The journey is approximately 5 hours, without stops. However the route takes you through some beautiful scenery, so you may likely want to make some rest stops along the way. The town of Dullstroom, situated in the Steenkampsburg mountains is a great place to break up the drive. Be aware- South Africans drive on the left hand side of the road!
  • All major car rental companies have branches at OR Tambo airport. A 4-wheel-drive vehicle is not necessary, though you will need a HIGH-CLEARANCE 2-wheel-drive vehicle to enjoy the more rural roads near Nkanyi House. Be sure to also get a car with air-conditioning. GPS is available as an additional option on most rental cars. It is best to reserve a car online prior to arriving in the country.
• If you still want to view the scenery, but do not want to drive yourself, there are shuttle companies which make the trip from OR Tambo airport to Hoedspruit three times a week and central Johannesburg daily. Ashton’s Tours is one popular company.
  • You will be dropped off at the Kamogelo Tourist Centre, just a few kilometres from Nkanyi House. Your hostess, Sue can arrange for you to be picked up there and taken to the car rental agencies located at the Hoedspruit airport.
• Would you prefer to fly? SA Express flies to Hoedspruit’s East Gate airport twice a day from Johannesburg and three times a week from Cape Town. Car rental is available at the airport through Avis. You MUST reserve a car prior to landing in Hoedspruit, as this office is very small and may not have a suitable car available if you do not book ahead.
