A beautiful relaxing place

A beautiful relaxing place to stay- close to shops and amenities but feels like you’re miles from anywhere. A great bushland setting with modern comforts. Loved lying by the pool listening to all the Bush noises and seeing the occasional giraffe or nyala wander past. Annette and Ed were amazing hosts and provided some fabulous local tips. We would definitely recommend this gorgeous house for anyone looking for a relaxing bush break.

Elegant, practical vacation home in tranquil setting

Nkanyi House is the perfect holiday getaway and our family relished every minute we had there. The house is extremely well appointed and great care has been taken from the smallest detail to the elegant, yet unpretentious furnishings and top-notch appliances (we loved the light fittings over the dining table -- very creative!). The outdoor showers were wonderful and the high-quality towels and linens were greatly appreciated. The pictures on the website are stunning but in person, it is even more impressive. We loved the patio with the comfortable chairs and loungers and spent many early mornings sipping our coffee and watching the loeries, and other birds landing in the bird bath which is strategically placed on the low wall. Thank you so much for having the Roberts bird book to refer to when we couldn't identify some of the birds. The kitchen is very well equipped and we enjoyed cooking at home in the evening and relaxing outside afterwards next to the fire. We did not use the gas BBQ but the charcoal one worked like a charm and we enjoyed braaing sosaties bought from the recommended local butcher. Booking Nkanyi House was very simple (as was the payment system) and Nanette provided excellent recommendations on what to do in the region, where to buy our groceries and which restaurants to visit. The on-site manager, Sue, went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and the house was spotless when we arrived. The delicious local coffee and a bottle of wine awaiting our arrival along with a lovely note, was very thoughtful. The solar power system worked very well and it was great to see such a sophisticated recycling system. The Zandspruit Estate is beautifully kept and the homes are far away enough from one another to not feel crowded in or disturbed by your neighbors. Apparently a family of wild dogs was on the estate when we were there and we saw hundreds of vultures one evening circling overhead and devouring the remains of an impala left in the river bed. Our family has rented many homes via VRBO, AirBnB and other online platforms, but Nkanyi House will go down as one of our favorites. Our only complaint was that five days wasn't long enough and next time we'd like to stay for at least a week or more. We visited Kruger one day and on the advice of the property manager did some lovely hikes in the Blyde River Canyon. However, it was very hard to drag ourselves away from the property and one day everyone voted to stay at the house and read books, lounge by the gorgeous pool and soak in the pink-tinged Drakensberg mountains in the distance and the amber hues of the bush. Thanks so much Annette and Ed for opening up your home and allowing us to enjoy its elegant beauty in such a tranquil setting. Sue, David, Alex and Oliver

Although we have visited South Africa many times, this would be the first time visiting the Kruger National Park area. Instead of staying in one of the "hotel rooms" available within one of the many private reserves, we decided for the first time to try out a private home. So glad we did! First of all, the homeowners Annette and Ed are outstanding. They have everything managed to a tee. A big thank you to them both. We were met by the property manager Sue, at the entrance gate. She gave us our keycard and showed us to the house within the reserve, and gave us a tour around the home. The house is just beautiful, as is the Hoedspruit Bush and Aero Estates. The estate subdivision even has a private paved landing strip, just in case you have your own plane and decide to fly in. It is a new build and recently furnished, quite nicely I might add. It is tucked away within a gated community, in safe surroundings. The house itself is situated within low trees and shrubs, with fantastic views of the mountains. The colours during sunrise and sunset are impressive. Within the private reserve are paved "roads", unpaved paths, and a couple of dams, of which the animals come to drink. What's a better way to watch the sun go down, than to take a bottle of wine and a couple of lawn chairs and watch animals such giraffes, zebra, impala, come to drink at the dam. Images we soon won't forget. The house itself has everything and runs off solar panels and batteries with the exception of the air conditioning/ heat pump which runs off electricity. Very Eco-friendly. No need to worry about usage, you wouldn't never know the difference, that even big appliances are solar powered. This includes the fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, TV, all small appliances, etc. All appliances are high end and new. Annette & Ed have thought of everything. There's even an herb garden. The pool and outdoor lounge area are inviting, with animals walking right by without a care. There is a built-in braai which we took advantage of, with comfortable seating as well as an outdoor dining table. Just sit back and relax. Any supplies you need are just minutes away, in the town of Hoedspruit, and if it's a night out on the town you're looking for, Annette has a list of restaurant available. The house is very comfortable and beautiful. Annette and Ed have made this house a home. Do stay here if you get the chance. You won't be disappointed.

My Son and I spent a few relaxing days at this most beautiful retreat in the African bushveld. The accommodation was luxurious and comfortable. The ambiance of the house gives you a homely feeling. Every convenience has been thought off and is provided. It is close to the major game parks and good restaurants in nearby Hoedspruit. The pool was a pleasure after a hot day in the bush. Will definitely be back and can highly recommend this establishment.

Nkanyi House is a beautiful home in a beautiful location. The views of the mountains are fantastic and we got to watch a thunder storm rolling in from the mountains! There are too many great aspects of the home to name, but a few: ** the outside shower (I don't think I took a shower inside at all) ** air conditioning in the bedrooms made for comfortable summer night sleeping ** the outdoor seating was where we spent our time ** we loved the lounge chairs outside - at night we relaxed and enjoyed the stars ** the full sized Refrigerator/Freezer ** the folding doors that allowed the inside/outside space to become one ** the pool I can think of only one suggestion -- a gas grill. The outside charcoal grill was nice and we used it, but a gas grill would have been nice to have available as well. Overall, a wonderful place to stay!

Thank you for this great review, Amy! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. A gas grill is something that we had thought about including at the house. I think this is a great idea. As Ed is the official braai master in our family, I will hand this over to him to find the best option for a gas grill to add to the house.

Beautiful Bush home

We had a wonderful time in Nkanyi House. It is a very confortable, beautifully decorated bush home. Nothing is missing in the house.... a real home away from home feeling. The bush around the house is beautiful and safe. The house is also very nicely situated, 10 mins away from the lovely town of Hoedspruit where you can find all kind of shops and lots of restaurants. Our host was incredibly helpful and very reactive. Everything has been thought of. It has been hard to leave this peaceful heaven... but we hope to come back soon!
